I Need my freedom, I don’t care about my family! by Chidi & Victor Akunna

“Well, it’s not my fault, I like to say it the way it comes to me, that is how I felt”. This statement was made by a lady whose husband keeps late nights. In fact, he does his best to avoid being in the same room with her for a long period of time. When we interviewed him, he said that the reason he tries to avoid her is because her words cut like a knife would.
Sometimes, in our bid to express our true feelings and correct our spouses or children, we end up hurting and damaging their esteem and the relationship we share. Emotions are good, they make life richer and more colourful. However, moderation and self-control are very important.

Self-control is important!
According to Dictionary.com, self-control is “control or restraint of oneself or one’s actions, feelings, etc.” Self-control helps you choose the right eating habits; even though you like confectionaries (donots, cakes, croissants etc), fizzy drinks, etc., you decide to drink water, eat vegetables and fruits.

On the other hand, even though you like to look good, you decide to put a spending cap on your buying habits; not using post-dated cheques or credit cards to buy liabilities and wears that are in vogue for less than 3months.
Self-control is what makes us human beings and higher animals – the ability to judge correctly by reasoning, not feelings and impulse.

ACTION POINT: Get an accountability partner; someone you can call to report yourself. Develop the habit of “biting your tongue” for a few minutes.
