5 Things we celebrate in our marriage | Chidi and Victor Akunna

Sometimes, all we focus on are the bad experiences, what is not working, or the next goal we are chasing. We rarely take time to reflect on what is working in our marriages and how far we have come.

In this video on our YouTube channel, Foundation for Family Affairs, we highlighted 5 things we celebrate in our marriage.

“You don’t care about me!” | Chidi and Victor Akunna

As we celebrate anniversaries and the number of years we spend together increase, there is a tendency to get comfortable with each other and begin to take each other for granted. This is when most couples stop caring and being sensitive.

Caring and being sensitive is a sign of value. It is what we naturally do when we place value on a relationship. This is because where our treasures are is where our hearts will be as well. Being romantic is about being sensitive and caring. This allows us pick ‘signals’, notice things about our spouses which most people won’t. If we are sensitive, we would notice a frown, a cry for help, a need for reassurance, a need for a hug, a need for timely encouragement, etc.. If we are sensitive, we would pick myriads of messages from the tone of our spouses, even during a phone call.

This is so important that it can turn things around in your marriage, sooner than you expect. It is the little things we neglect that often make the difference. A cold and distant marital experience can be turned around, if only we would genuinely care. Be sensitive!
